My exercises stalled after a good end to Week 3 as I was cursed with pain in my knee. It didn't seem swollen or tender to the touch, but felt very 'delicate' as though it might give way if I put my weight on it. I took it easy for a few days then saw my osteopath who confirmed I'd not done any real damage but had overdone it a bit and should focus on lower impact exercises where possible. The muscles and tendons along the side of my upper leg and knee are very tight and this is what is causing me the pain. Enter my new best friend, the foam roller! I have successfully used this on the front of my shin and my calf and this loosened up the muscles very well. It is excruciatingly uncomfortable, and very awkward, to use the roller on the side of my legs but I am doing it with a grimace and the knowledge that it will get easier and will enable me to start exercising again. I am hoping to continue with Week 4 Day 1 tonight, albeit a bit delayed, but will do the cardio test on the bike rather than risk running and causing myself more pain.
